Olive trees hold a special significance for the people of Palestine. It symbolises identity, culture and tradition. Majority of the farmers in Palestine are dependent on olive cultivation for income. Over the years, olive production has seen a steady increase in profitability and demand.
Most of the olives are used for olive oil production, the sector alone contributes over $100 million income each year to some of the poorest farming communities. Olive growing in the West Bank is low maintenance and easy, it required little input, low use of chemicals and fertilisers and is kinder to the environment.
